Alibi Hour is a daily whodunit in ChatGPT, with a party mode for friends in one room. Here is how it works, and how to reach us.

Playing the daily case

  • Open the case: in ChatGPT, say "Let's play today's Alibi Hour case".
  • Ask a question: tap a "?" square in the card (a suspect and a time), or tell ChatGPT, for example "Ask Ben where he was at 8:30". Each question gets one answer, word for word. Asking the same question again costs nothing.
  • Questions: you have 10 a day. A suspect or time that isn't in the case costs nothing.
  • The rules: one suspect is the culprit and lies in every answer; the other three always tell the truth. The culprit was alone at the scene at the flagged time. In ten minutes a person can stay or walk to a room next door; the room diagonally across takes twenty.
  • Accuse: tap Accuse in the card, or tell ChatGPT "I think it was Cleo". The accusation is final.
  • Proven or lucky: a right accusation is "proven" when the answers you asked for rule out everyone else, and "lucky" when they don't.
  • Par and percentile: par is the fewest questions that prove the culprit. After you accuse, you see how your result compares with everyone who played that case.
  • New case: every day at 00:00 UTC. Everyone plays the same case. Monday and Tuesday are easy, Wednesday and Thursday medium, Friday to Sunday hard.
  • Streak: consecutive days with a right accusation.

Hosting a party

  • Start: in ChatGPT, say "Start an Alibi Hour mystery party". The card shows a code, a link and a QR code.
  • Guests: everyone opens the link on their phone. Up to four take a suspect's sheet; up to eight more join as detectives. No sign-up and no names.
  • Fewer than four guests: the card answers for the suspects nobody took.
  • Reveal: when everyone has voted, tap Reveal in the card or tell ChatGPT "reveal". Every phone shows the result.
  • A phone lost its sheet: open the private link from "Open your sheet on another device", or reopen the party link in the same browser.
  • Someone you don't know took a seat, or a guest left without tapping Leave: open Remove someone in the card and remove that seat. That phone loses its sheet and vote, and a suspect's sheet is free again.
  • End: say "end the party"; it's also deleted 24 hours after the last activity.

Your data

Alibi Hour keeps your questions, accusations, streak, share links and parties under a scrambled form of ChatGPT's anonymous user ID. To delete it all, say "Delete my Alibi Hour data" in ChatGPT. Details are in the privacy policy.
